Hollywood gearing up for academy awards

BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The 84th annual academy awards are set to be handed out at the Kodak theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Nine movies are up for best film but silent movie "The Artist" has cemented itself as firm favorite after cleaning up at both the Golden Golbe awards and the Bafta's.

It's looking like a two horse race for best actress with golden globe winners Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams both vying for the title.

George Clooney and "The artist" actor Jean Du Jardin are the front runners for the best actor award.

And of course it wouldn't be the Oscars without the red carpet action.

Fashion Stylist Maria Divaris has been making some predictions about the jewelry we can expect to see on the red carpet.

She said, "Certainly lots and lots of diamonds. Everything from cluster earrings to long dangles, tons of great chunky diamond bracelets... I think we will see someone such as a Meryl Streep where we might see something more minimal and then on someone like Michelle Williams we might see something more fresh and modern that we haven't really seen before."

Billy Crystal is set to host the show for the ninth time.

Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry are just some of the stars that will take to the stage to present the awards.
